About Boston School of Music Arts
The Adams-Lower Mills Dorchester, Mattapan and Milton area has a rich musical tradition. With the exception of some extraordinary private teachers, a private music school has not existed since the early 20th century in this area, the Boston School of Music Arts offers a new and fresh take on community-oriented music education.
Over 12 years ago, Sharon and Yury decided to change that, and create a warm, judgement free, results-driven, music community in the form of the Boston School of Music Arts. This school is a year round music school, offering personalized music lessons and programs to families in Dorchester, Milton, Mattapan, Quincy, Randolph, South Boston, Canton, and surrounding areas. Boston School of Music Arts offers music instruction across a broad range of instruments: Piano, Guitar, Voice, Drum, Violin, Bass Guitar, Saxophone, Trumpet, Clarinet, Flute, Viola, Cello, Trombone, Accordion, Ukulele, performance instruction, and more.
MUSIC IS A GROUP SPORT, and that is the heart of BSMA's music performance instruction and ensemble activities. This includes: Band classes, string ensemble class, vocal ensemble classes, music theory, professional performance workshops, guest artist workshops, and special summer programs – all for beginners through professionals of ages 18 months and up (with our COVID policies in place).
Students here are taught using specialized materials – customized to each students’ needs, in addition to standard materials, appropriate to each instrument. Our focus is creating a strong foundation, in all of the fundamentals of music, and to teach students to then use those skills to uplift the world around them. Our teachers are experienced teachers, and in-demand performers, who LOVE teaching music, and are really good at it.
We are passionate about continuing to bring high-quality music education, and an inspiration about learning and playing music, We do this by reaching each student's inner music voice, and helping them to communicate using the language of music. This is a feeling and intention shared by the entire teaching and administrative staff.
We look forward to sharing that with you!

We also offer other opportunities throughout the year for all students - from some of our youngest to our adult students, to perform. From local venues to destination performances, there are plenty of opportunities to use new music skills, as they develop.
Every parent just wants to know how their child is doing and if they are really progressing. The best way for a parent to understand if their investment in lessons is really worth it, is to have their child participate in a recital.

Students in our program earn progress-based certificates to acknowledge major achievements completing key levels of skill, in playing music, reading and creating.
We are also the only music school in Boston that has its own copyrighted curriculum, including graduations, with certificates at different levels of competency. We are also the only music school in this area that gives their students the opportunity to earn special levels of achievement through the patented Musical Ladder system - including color wristband bracelets (kids and teens love them!), medals, and trophies passing musical tests and levels. Do other schools offer trophies and certificates? A few. But none of them inspire their students with smiling faces by giving them great options for earning their way up as they grow musically.
Boston School of Music & Creative Arts does not require semester minimums for lessons. Students study here are on a month-to-month basis. Most children who are with us for years, start as absolute beginners, and go on to college, some become doctors, attorneys. Many others graduate from music colleges like Berklee, Julliard, and more. Our Adults often approach this as a hobby, which then evolves into a rewarding journey performing music.
If you are ready to start, you have nothing to lose as we only want students who truly want to be here and we will not commit you to a long term contract.
I know that for many families and students, deciding where to learn music is a big step.
